War Merit Cross 2nd Class without Swords. Instituted on the 11th October 1939 and awarded for military or civilian merit not involving front line combat service. The version without swords was awarded for service. This early war quality example is die struck in solid brass with an antique bronze finish and has the makers code number stamped into the suspension ring.
